TestComplete basics
Introduction
TestComplete is a functional automated testing platform developed by
SmartBear Software is a company known for such products as
Soap UI
.
Swagger, the Zephyr plugin for
Jira
and others.
TestComplete gives testers the ability to create automated tests for applications
Microsoft Windows
,
Web
,
Android
and iOS. Tests can be written, scripted, or created manually using keyword-driven operations.
It is used for automatic reproduction and logging of errors.
The runner test for TestComplete is called TestExecute and can be installed separately.
from TestComplete.
TestComplete contains three modules:
- Desktop
- Network
- Mobile.
Each module contains functionality for creating automated tests on the specified platform.
TestComplete is used to test many different types of applications, including the Web, Windows, etc.
Android, iOS, WPF, HTML5, Flash, Flex, Silverlight,
.NET
VCL and
Java
. It automates functional testing and server testing, such as database testing.
TestComplete is used to create and automate many different types of software tests.
Creating a test to record and playback records the tester performing manual testing, and
It allows you to reproduce it and maintain it over and over again as an automatic test.
Recorded tests can be modified later by testers to create new tests or improve existing tests.
a large number of use cases.
Main characteristics
- Keyword Testing: TestComplete has a built-in keyword-driven test editor that consists of keyword operations corresponding to automated testing actions.
- Script Testing: TestComplete has a built-in code editor that helps testers write scripts manually. It also includes a set of special plugins that help.
- Recording and Playing Test: TestComplete records the key actions needed to play the test and discards all unnecessary actions.
- Distributed Testing: TestComplete can run multiple automated tests on individual workstations or virtual machines.
- Access to internal object methods and properties: TestComplete reads the names of visible elements and many internal elements of Delphi, C++Builder, .NET, WPF, Java, and Visual Basic applications and allows test scripts to access these values for validation or use in tests.
- Error Tracking Integration: TestComplete includes problem tracking patterns that can be used to create or modify items stored in problem tracking systems. TestComplete currently supports Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, 2008, 2010 Team System, BugZilla, Jira and AutomatedQA AQdevTeam.
- Data-based testing: Data-based testing with TestComplete means using a single test to validate many different test examples by using input and expected values from an external data source instead of using the same rigidly programmed values each time a test is run.
- Open architecture based on COM: TestComplete engine is based on an open API, COM-interface. It does not depend on the source language and can read debugger information and use it during execution through TestComplete Debug Info Agent.
- Test visualizer – TestComplete automatically takes screenshots while recording and playing the test. This allows you to quickly compare expected and actual screens during testing.
-
Extensions and SDKs – everything seen in TestComplete – panels, project elements, specific script objects, and others – are implemented as plug-ins. These plugins are included in the product and installed on your computer along with other TestComplete modules. You can create your own plugins that extend TestComplete and provide specific functionality for your own needs. For example, you can create plugins or use third-party plugins to:
